The IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) and the Industrial Application Society (IAS) co-sponsored the Energy Conversion Congress and Expo (ECCE) conference at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Last week, I attended this event that delved into the energy-conversion landscape. In this issue, we analyze the plenary session and the main topics discussed at ECCE. Moreover, wide-bandgap products like silicon carbide and, soon, gallium nitride are enabling electric vehicle (EV) deployment on a large scale. But other products' roles cannot be overlooked. These include battery management systems and lithium-ion batteries, which will be analyzed in this issue. Other topics are the benefits of Infineon's Press Pack housing and light-triggered thyristor (LTT), the advantages of silver sintering as a replacement for solder, and the next episode of our tutorial on UPS. Don't miss out on the latest Wine Down Friday with Frank Heidmann, VP of SET, NI.
